FAQs

What is the Sproutix Sprouted Kambu Laddu made of?

The Sproutix Sprouted Kambu Laddu is made with sprouted pearl millet (kambu, also called bajra), cashew and cardamom, bound with jaggery and desi ghee (clarified butter). There is no refined sugar, no maida and no preservatives. Orgville makes it in small batches in its own FSSAI-licensed facility in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu (FSSAI Lic. 12421006001387).

Why are the grains sprouted?

The grains are soaked and allowed to sprout before they are dried, roasted and milled. Sprouting is a traditional Tamil kitchen step (mulaikattiya) that softens the grain, makes the flour lighter and gives the laddu a nuttier, naturally sweeter taste.

How many laddus are in a box, and how long do they keep?

It comes in three sizes: 150 g (6 laddus), 250 g (10 laddus) and 500 g (20 laddus). The 150 g box is packed with modified-atmosphere packing and keeps for 8 months unopened; the 250 g and 500 g boxes are best within 45 days, which is why they ship prepaid only.

Is it suitable for kids' lunch boxes?

Yes. Each laddu is about 25 g, so one or two make an easy snack for a tiffin box or after school. It is sweetened with jaggery. Allergens: contains milk (ghee) and tree nuts (cashew).

How should I store the laddus?

Keep the box closed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Once opened, store in an airtight container and finish within a couple of weeks. Refrigeration is not needed, but it is fine in very hot or humid weather.

What is kambu?

Kambu is the Tamil name for pearl millet, known as bajra in Hindi. It is a traditional Tamil Nadu staple, eaten as kambu koozh and kambu adai.
