What is in the Sproutix Sprouted Multigrain Mix (sathu maavu)?

26 grains, millets, pulses and nuts. 14 are sprouted before roasting: Black Gram, Black Soybean, Finger Millet (Ragi), Green Gram, Green Peas, Horse Gram, Maize, Pearl Millet (Kambu), Red Chickpeas, Red Sorghum, Red Soybean, Wheat, White Sorghum, White Soybean. 12 are roasted without sprouting: Almond, Cashew, Barley, Peanut, Barnyard Millet, Black Rice, Brown Rice, Flaxseed, Foxtail Millet, Kodo Millet, Little Millet, Red Rice. Dried ginger and cardamom add flavour. There is no added sugar, jaggery or preservative.

How do I make sathu maavu porridge?

Whisk 2 tablespoons of the mix into a cup of water or milk without lumps, then cook on a low flame for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring, until it thickens. Sweeten with jaggery or dates powder, or keep it savoury with buttermilk and salt.

Can children have it?

Yes. Sathu maavu porridge is a traditional breakfast for children and adults in Tamil Nadu. Note that it contains wheat and barley (gluten), soy, peanuts and tree nuts. For infants, check with your paediatrician before introducing new foods.

What sizes are available and how long does it keep?

200 g and 500 g pouches. It keeps for 6 months unopened; after opening, store it in an airtight container in a cool, dry place and use a dry spoon.

Why sprouted grains?

Sprouting the grains before drying and roasting is a traditional step that makes the flour lighter, easier to cook and naturally nuttier in taste. Orgville makes it in small batches in its own FSSAI-licensed facility in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu (FSSAI Lic. 12421006001387).
